Suspects in court for burning schools in Vuwani

The case against the 18 Vuwani residents, who were arrested after allegedly setting alight various schools in the Limpopo town, will resume this morning.

A teacher as well as a councilor are among the suspects who will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's court today.


The suspects are linked to the burning of more than 28 schools as part of the protest against their inclusion into the new stand alone municipality with Malamulele. 


Community spokesperson Alex Ndou confirmed that taxis have been organised to ferry people to the court to show their support. 


The former councilor, Gideon Tshavhuyo and teacher Frank Muthathe together with their co-accused were released on bail in July after making an appeal in the Thohoyandou high court.

Meanwhile the provincial cabinet has instructed the MEC for Coperate Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Makoma Makoropetja to write to the Municipal dermacation board asking to it to re-evaluate the determination of the municipal boundaries in the newly established municipality LIM 345 in Malamulele. 


The latest confirmation by the Provincial Government spokesperson Phuti Seloba comes amid talks on the future of Vuwani.
