Suspensions due for alleged police brutality

Two Douglasdale police officers implicated in an incident caught on camera in Fourways in August are expected to be served with notices of suspension before the end of this week.

The two officers, who are yet to be identified, are seen in a video that has taken the internet by storm allegedly choking and assaulting oen of two men they pulled over in the early hours of one morning.

According to the police, a case of assault was being investigated and has been handed over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).


IPID spokesperson Grace Langa confirmed on Thursday morning that they received the docket from police on Wednesday and were in the process of analysing it.


"We have allocated the docket to an investigator who will soon start with the invetigation," she said.


Once the investigator interviewed the suspects, complainent and witnesses, the docket will be handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision on prosecution.
