TAC to march to Life Esidimeni hearings
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The civil organisation Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) is set to march to the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings on Monday, where former Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu is expected to take the stand.
Mahlangu is set to explain her role in the deaths of at least 140 psychiatric patients who where moved from Life Esidimeni to unlicenced NGOs.
Former head of department, Dr Barney Selebano, earlier testified that Mahlangu put pressure on officials to speed up the project.
TAC chairperson Sibongile Tshabalala says the Mahlangu needs to be held accountable.

"It's not enough for officials just to resign. Because tomorrow they'll go will go look for work elsewhere while people have died. They have not taken full responsibility."
Both Selebano and the director of mental health, Dr Mmakgabo Manamela, tendered their resignations last week.
Tshabalala says Mahlangu's testimony is of utmost importance as she has been accused of putting pressure on officials.
"She was the one who was overseeing health as MEC in the Gauteng. She has to take responsibility, not only her but including the Premier must take responsibility for what happened."
