Take part in school elections, Minister urges parents
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday called on all parents of schoolgoing children to take part in next year's school governing body (SGB) elections.
"Government encourages all parents to support the SGB elections by standing as candidates or by participating as voters," she told reporters in Pretoria.
The elections, which are held every three years, are set to take place from March 6 to 28 next year.
Motshekga said they involved 4000 schools.
"We are going to be electing more than 250,000 school governors."
She said all provinces were "ahead" with their preparations for the elections.
