Taxi driver shot dead in Pta CBD protest

The Tshwane metro police have confirmed that a taxi driver was shot and killed in the Pretoria CBD amid violent protests on Tuesday.

Taxi drivers in the area confronted a group of alleged drug dealers in a bid to clean the city's streets.
During the protest several roads were blockaded with buses hijacked by the taxi drivers, leaving the CDB gridlocked.
"They had their own operation whereby they approached drug addicts in that area and during that commotion shots were fired and unfortunately one taxi operator was shot and killed," says the metro police’s Isaac Mahamba.
"There is a spot where drugs are being sold and their own taxi operators are going there to buy the so-called nyaope. So they went there just to clean that area. They approached the people they are thinking are selling these drugs and as I said, commotion ensued between the two and shots were fired."
