Chaos unfolded on the Golden Highway in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
A taxi driver belonging to the Lawley Taxi Association was fatally shot.
The authorities say it appears the driver was shot during taxi-related violence.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says occupants in a Golf shot at a taxi driver.
"The driver was shot and taken to hospital where he was certified dead. We are investigating a case of murder," he says.
He says they are not ruling out the possibility that the shooting was as a result of a taxi rivalry.
