Taxi operators disrupt briefing on Uber
Updated | By Suné du Toit
Violence broke out in Johannesburg when a group of meter taxi drivers attempted to assault Gauteng MEC of Transport, Ismail Vadi, on Monday morning.
The Gauteng Department of Transport launched the process of regulating Uber partner-drivers as Public Transport Operators.
Tensions have been running high between the two groups, after some meter taxi drivers attacked Uber drivers earlier this year over business in Johannesburg.
Police have been called in after the taxi drivers blocked off Diagonal Street in front of the Gauteng Provincial Government offices.
