Teacher convicted of assaulting grade 6 pupil
Updated | By Eva Chipa
A primary school teacher has been found
guilty of assaulting an 11-year-old grade 6 pupil on Wednesday.

The assault was apparently linked to the alleged theft of a bottle of flavoured water.
“Annelise Boot, 54, from Springvale Primary School appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court in connection with the incident in February 2020. The court accepted the case presented by the state, found the teacher had acted violently towards the pupil and was guilty of common assault,” says the NPA’s Lumka Mahanjana.
Boot had initially faced a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“The 54-year-old had assaulted the pupil by throttling, kicking and pressing on his chest with her knee while pulling him with his arms upward.”
The court told Boot to either face 10 months imprisonment or pay R10 000. Her decision is yet to be known.
