TEACHERS' ATTACK ON JOURNALISTS INVESTIGATED - The Gauteng Department of Basic Education says it is investigating an incident at a school in Soweto yesterday where teachers allegedly attacked two Soweto TV journalists filming at the school. 


According to Soweto TV, two members from their news department were attacked at the Daliwonga Secondary School on Wednesday on learners arriving late.


The station claims their employees were attacked after they witnessed learners who arrived late being beaten by teachers as they entered the school premises.


Education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane says they will be investigating all the circumstances surrounding the incident...



 


OSCAR PISTORIUS PAROLE REVIEW DATE SET - It will be a few more weeks before Oscar Pistorius could be released under correctional supervision. 


The family's spokesperson has issued a statement, saying that they've noted the decision by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Review Board that the matter will be considered on September 18.

JUDICIARY AND EXECUTIVE MEETS - The Presidency says it is hopeful that today's meeting between the judiciary and the executive enhaces cooperation between the two arms of the state. 


The meeting comes at the request of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, following what they called attacks on the judiciary.

POLICE OFFICERS IN COURT FOR MURDER AND TORTURE - Ten police officers have appeared in the Thembisa Magistrates Court on charges of murder and torture following an investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate into an incident in December 2014 .


The officers allegedly tortured a man in Ivory Park in Johannesburg on the way to the police station following his arrest.  

 


TUT SRC ELECTIONS - The Tshwane University of Technology is keeping a close eye on the elections for a new Student Representative Council underway at campusses today. 


Chaos erupted yesterday when members of the EFF clashed with supporters of the Pasma and Sasco students organisation.

TUTU HEALTH UPDATE - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has thanked people worldwide for their well wishes and support while receiving treatment in a Cape Town hospital for inflammation unrelated to his prostate cancer. 


His daughter, Mpho Tutu, has conveyed the family's thanks for all the support and says they are hopeful that he will be released from hospital by next week.
