Sandra Malcolm was found stabbed to death in her Lea Road house in the Cape Town suburb on Sunday, April 19.

The gruesome discovery is understood to have been made by the 74-year-old woman’s grandson, who climbed through a window of her house when she failed to answer her door.

She was reportedly last seen by neighbours the day before her body was found.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the teen from Citrusdal was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

“The suspect is currently in custody at the Muizenberg police station and will be appearing in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 11,” he said.

A police source told News24 that the suspect is not believed to have been known by the victim.

Locals were shocked by the murder as the suburb is a low crime area.

“Isolated theft or robbery cases are the most serious incidents reported from this sector,” the officer said.
