Vernon Govender says Kristin went with relatives to Action Karting last Wednesday.

The distraught father says his child's hair got tangled somehow at the obstacle course, while she was driving a go-kart:

"It partially scalped her, tore her scalp as well. She suffered a degloving of the scalp and it was like torn right off the back, so she has a lot of stitches and stables on her head. She does have some spinal injuries as well. She has no mobility from her waist down.

He says they were surprised that no one from the Go-Karting facility was able to administer first aid.

"There was only by-passer - they rendered first aid to my daughter. We received no assistance whatsoever from the go-kart operators. I am severely traumatised. It's just been a nightmare."

Gateway has issued a statement confirming that the incident took place. It says a representative from Centre Management has been in contact with the family.

It also says security from the mall responded after they were made aware of what had happened and proceeded to call emergency services.
