Telkom and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) signed a three-year pay deal in Pretoria on Thursday. Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko said the general salary increase would
be six percent.

The agreement, effective for three years from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2016, also provided for an acceleration process to rectify salary disparities.

"Telkom is determined to avoid unfair income differentials," Maseko told reporters.

The two smaller Telkom unions, the SA Communications Union (Sacu) and Solidarity, were busy consulting its members about the agreement.

"Sacu has indicated their intention to sign the agreement," said  Maseko. He said he believed Sacu would sign the agreement early next week.
