Temporary reprieve for Jiba, Mrwebi
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
President Jacob Zuma has decided not to suspend or institute an inquiry into the fitness of Lawrence Mrwebi and Nomgcobo Jiba to hold office.
This follows the North Gauteng High Court's decision to grant the two prosecutors leave to appeal.
They both work as Deputy National Directors for the National Prosecuting Authority.
The pair were struck off the roll of advocates in September.
Both have been under fire since several adverse judicial findings against them, including their handling of the case against former National Intelligence Agency boss Richard Mdluli.
They were asked to make written representations to the president as to why they should not be suspended.
"Having considered the representations made by Jiba and Mrwebi, and the decision of the North Gauteng High Court to grant the two prosecutors leave to appeal, the President has decided not to suspend them or institute any inquiry until the finalisation of the leave process," the Presidency says in a statement.
Jiba and Mrwebi are still both still on special leave.
