Tensions simmer as EFF face off with Operation Dudula in Dobsonville

Tensions simmered in Dobsonville, Soweto, on Wednesday as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) faced off with supporters of activist Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini.

This as the red berets showed up in their numbers to the local police station accompanying one of their own to lay a criminal case against Dlamini.
Resident Victor Ramerafe wants Dlamini to answer to a case for allegedly breaking and entering his home, as well as intimidation and assault after an incident at the weekend, when it’s understood members of Operation Dudula ransacked his home in search of drugs.
The movement gained momentum last year in a bid to clean up parts of the city.
This includes their controversial stance on foreign nationals.
“He was wearing a military uniform and had a gun on him,” Ramerafe described the alleged encounter.
“When I walked into the house and found him there, he asked where the drugs were hidden.”
Ramerafe denied dealing drugs and accused Dlamini of threatening him.

The EFF and Operation Dudula met outside the police station with officers keeping a close watch of the situation.
Addressing media, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo warned Operation Dudula not to provoke them.
“What they have done here today has nothing to do with drugs, nothing to do with illegal immigrants but it was an invitation for the Economic Freedom Fighters to the table of black-on-black violence.
“We have not accepted that invitation,” he said.
Thambo believes the alleged attack on Ramerafe was misguided.
“Nhlanhla Lux is a coward because he is not confronting gangsters selling drugs in Mitchells Plain, he’s not confronting gangsters in the CBD of Johannesburg, he’s not going to the harbours of this country where drugs are imported. He’s going to innocent people, old women and old men.
“He’s a toy soldier.”
“We want him to be arrested. If the police don’t make an intervention on what Operation Dudula is doing here in Johannesburg, we are going to encourage our people to defend themselves,” Thambo added.
