Thabo Bester expected to appear in court
Convicted Facebook rapist Thabo Bester is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
His appearance follows after his rearrest on Wednesday in Tanzania.
He landed in South Africa on a chartered flight from Tanzania, under a heavy police guard, before being whisked off to the Kgosi Mampuru maximum security prison where he was kept under 24-hour surveillance.
Bester was serving a life sentence imprisonment at the time of his escape in May 2022.
“He at this stage faces a charge of escaping from lawful custody, defeating the ends of justice, violation of a dead body and fraud,” says police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
