There must be proof of livestock purchases, Cele tells Senekal community
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Police Minister Bheki Cele has called on buyers and sellers of livestock to obtain valid paperwork to ensure they stay on the right side of the law.

Cele was addressing the community in Senekal during a rural safety imbizo on Thursday.
The minister’s visit follows several farm attacks in the area, including the recent high-profile killing of young farm manager Brendin Horner. .
“When we are on the roadblocks as the South African Police, there must be a proper proof to say you bought and these things supposed to be yours,” Cele said.
“There is a place called Umhlabuyalingana in KZN, you found a whole carcass hanging in the street and you don’t know where it comes from and there is no receipt of it.
“We will have to enhance and tighten the laws of abattoirs when these animals are slaughtered there, we must know that they slaughter proper, well, processed animals and not stolen animals.”
He also vowed to investigate the origin of all the livestock owned by police officers in the area.
“I am told that there are police officers that have good herd of cattle and maybe that is an easy one to visit and ask them where they bought their livestock animals and produce receipts of their purchase.”
