Kganya died on Tuesday after a bookshelf fell on him when he allegedly tried to reach for a toy.

He died instantly, his body buried beneath the bookshelf.

According to CCTV footage shown to the family, father Ntaote says that the school took over an hour to reach out to him.

"When I asked them yesterday, it looked like it took time for the paramedics to come. The security can confirm that because he is the one who said that they asked him to call the paramedics.

"On the footage it says 9:50 that is when it happened and I received a call at 10:36 to come here and I received another call before 11:00 telling me to go to the hospital."

The school has been questioned as to why it took so long to report the three year-old's death to the family.

CEO Cedric Ntumba, who had no clear answer, said that the school was trying to follow its own processes and procedures.

"Internally we were also trying to follow our process. In the meantime we needed to communicate with the family. As the child was moved from the school to the hospital, certain action and changes needed to take place. So a lot was happening yesterday. If through all of that we find ourselves where there has been miscommunication nor communicated in a timely manner, I can sincerely apologise."

Grandfather Sipho Radebe has accused the school of trying to cover Kganya's death.

"When my son says that this incident happened at 10:00 and we were here at 3:00. It leaves a bad taste to us. I am sure that this school didn't mean for this to happen, but what they did afterwards to try and cover up makes us really, really angry."
