The Council for Geoscience has confirmed that a 2.1 magnitude earthquake hit Johannesburg on Thursday.

The tremor was felt in the south of Johannesburg, including areas around Mondeor, and Protea Glen.
The council said the quake was recorded at 03:15 am.
Earlier this month, a powerful 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook Johannesburg, with the epicentre in the vicinity of Boksburg
Last week a 2.8 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Roodepoort area.
"The earthquake registered a local magnitude of approximately 2.1 as recorded by the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN). The epicentre was located south of Johannesburg in the Soweto area,” the council said in a statement.
"The public is encouraged to record their experiences using the available online questionnaire on the CGS website. The CGS is the custodian of the SANSN, which monitors seismic wave activities throughout the country."
