Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The African National Congress (ANC) has officially announced its mayoral candidate for Tshwane.
The ruling party has confirmed that former Public Works minister Thoko Didiza is its mayoral candidate for Tshwane.
"Comrade Didiza is a senior and seasoned leader of our movement, with extensive experience in governance. Her nomination demonstrates our commitment to strengthening the capacity of leadership at local government level," deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte said.
"We are confident she will continue to build on solid foundation laid by Kgosientso Ramokgopa."
Duarte explained that the Provincial Executive Committee was not convinced by the names that had been submitted for the position.
Violence erupted on Sunday night. One person was shot and wounded.
It’s believed some party members were not happy with the announcement that former Didiza would be the candidate.
ANC Gauteng chair Paul Mashatile says he accepts and supports the devision.
