A Gauteng teacher has appeared in court after being caught in possession of drugs on the school’s premises.
The teacher, from Thoko Thaba Secondary School in Tokoza, was arrested last Wednesday and appeared in court the following day.
He was allegedly found with a bag and box of drugs on the school premises.
The spokesperson for Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said concerned parents are protesting outside the school on Wednesday.
“MEC Chiloane is also concerned that this matter was not reported to the Department by the School Management Team (SMT) in a timely manner, which has led to a planned protest by the community which took place today,” Xolani Mkhwemte said.
“We are disappointed about this incident and vehemently condemn such conduct, and we will be acting against it accordingly. We also plead with the community to allow this matter to be handled by the department and relevant law enforcement authorities for appropriate resolution.”
The teacher has since been removed from the school as a precaution.
The department has launched an investigation into the matter.
