Thousands of litres of confiscated booze to be destroyed by Joburg police
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Geoffrey Makhubo, is set to destroy thousands of litres of alcohol confiscated from different outlets found to have contravening the disaster management regulations.

This follows a joint operation against crime and non-compliance with the Disaster Management Regulations that took place on Sunday in the City of Johannesburg.
In an effort to minimize the level of crime and ensure that outlets adhere to covid-19 regulations, Makhubo joined the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) in the Joint-Operation.
The operation was also attended by the Minister of Police Bheki Cele and the MEC for Community Safety in Gauteng, Faith Mazibuko.
During the operation, several establishments including the Blackdoor Lounge in Sandton were shut down for failing to adhere to lockdown regulations.
In addition to having no liquor license or a manager on duty , the club was also packed beyond capacity and no patrons wore masks.
