Thousands stranded as Metrobus strike continues
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Metrobus has urged its commuters to continue arranging alternative transport as its workers entered a second day of a strike action on Tuesday.
At least 39 0000 commuters were affected by the strike on Monday after only four buses were able to leave the depot in Roodepoort.
The strike will enter a second day on Tuesday.
Metrobus in Johannesburg say non-striking workers were intimidated by those locked in a wage dispute with the company.
Union Demawusa says workers are demanding equal pay.
“Sad as it is to make arrangements for alternative transport because I can’t guarantee that the non-striking members will be driving tomorrow in absence of employer guaranteeing safety,” says spokesperson Goodwill Shivuri.
Shivuri says the discussions betweeh disgruntled workers, Demawusa and management on Monday bore some fruit.
“We have managed to iron out 90% of the issues that they have raised. We are remaining with four issues to deal with in the morning.”
