The ANC's national executive committee has thrown its weight behind the ANC Youth League's national task team to ensure that at least three provincial conferences are held before December.

"The NEC acknowledged the difficulties going with the work of rebuilding the structures of the ANCYL. The progress made was equally appreciated," secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Sunday.

He said the NEC highlighted issues that should be avoided in the execution of the work by the ANCYL.

Discussions are expected on Monday between the national officials of the ANC, the task team and the disbanded provincial executive committees of the ANCYL of the Eastern Cape and Gauteng.

Mantashe said it was agreed that the national conference of the ANCYL be held no later than September 2014. He said the date was set to accommodate next year's general elections.

He said it must be remembered that both the constitution of the African National Congress and ANCYL are silent on the period of rebuilding a disbanded NEC as it was never envisaged.

"So there is no time frame and we are setting that time frame to say at least by September 2014, this structure should be out. This is taking into account the pending national elections in the first half of 2014," he said.

The time frame is expected to allow for election work without any hindrances.
