Three appear in slain CTown doctor case

Three men will appear in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday in connection with the murder of paediatrician Louis Heyns.

At their last appearance on Monday, one of the men, 37-year-old businessman Juan Liedeman, was to have entered a plea and sentencing agreement with the State.

Liedeman, who was out on R20,000 bail, faces a robbery charge relating to Heyns's stolen vehicle.

However, his lawyer William Booth was not in court because of a knee injury and the case was postponed until Thursday.

His co-accused, brothers Marthinus and Sarel van der Walt, will remain in custody. The brothers face charges of killing and robbing
Heyns.

The Director of Public Prosecutions decided to charge Liedeman with robbery as an accessory after the fact, and defeating the ends
of justice.

He was released on bail in June last year, after proving exceptional circumstances existed to warrant his release.

Liedeman said in a bail application affidavit that he had received threats from the Van der Walts before and after his arrest
last year.

Heyns, a University of Stellenbosch medical professor, went missing last May. His body was found in a shallow grave in the Strand the same month.
