Three suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with police in western Durban on Friday.

KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshuinda says they had robbed someone at a shopping complex in Westville.

Netshiunda says the suspects opened fire on police when they realised they were being pursued.

Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says their team have treated several people.
"From the scene four people had been injured. Three people had sustained fatal injuries."
Police were still on the scene Friday afternoon under the M13 bridge in Dawncliffe.
