Police Minister Bheki Cele has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the gruesome gang rape of eight women in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.
A production company was shooting a music video on Thursday when they were attacked by a group of armed men.
The suspects robbed them of their equipment, cell phones and raped the eight women who were featuring in the music video.
A group of ten men are believed to be behind the attack.
Police say the men allegedly fired several shots in the air and ordered everyone to lay down before taking turns to rape the women in the nearby bushes.
Cele says the search continues for the other suspects.
"From the information I have, three suspects have been arrested. I am going back there to see how far the operations have gone because operations are continuing until all of them are found.
“I am told that some of them are in a place called Plastic View, which is an informal settlement. If they don't find them, those settlement will have to go down, some I am told there are in the holes, the police will have to go down and find them.”
The suspects are believed to be illegal miners.
"It looks like they are foreign nationals, but basically, they are zama zamas. Those people who raid old mines, they have left that job to rob houses including this terrible incident that they have done.
“I hope that by this afternoon, we will give police having responded decisively," says Cele.
The victims have been admitted in various hospitals throughout the province.
