Wall collapses, killing 3 children
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Three children have tragically died in Doornfontein, south of Johannesburg, after a wall collapsed.
Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the three children were playing near the abandoned building at the time of the incident.
"A part of an abandoned building wall collapsed this afternoon. There were three young children playing near the wall. They were confirmed dead on scene after our resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful."
Mulaudzi says the building is abandoned.
"The building is a disused building where residents have erected temporary structures like shacks inside of it.
"There are walls supporting the erected structures and those are unstable."

Johannesburg EMS is currently on the scene to prevent any secondary collapses.
"We are trying to remove the unstable walls in the building so that we can prevent secondary collapse of the building," explains Muluadzi
Motorists using that route have also been urged to avoid Davies Street as EMS are still working on site.
