Three dead, eight injured in Johannesburg car crash
Updated | By ANA
Three people, including two children, were killed when a car and a bakkie collided on the R114 in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, on Saturday night, Gauteng paramedics said.
"Over and above the deceased patients, eight other people were also injured in the collision, ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw said.
"It is believed that the two vehicles collided head-on with each other which lead to some of the occupants being ejected from the vehicles. When ER24 paramedics arrived on [the] scene they found the mangled vehicles on both sides of the road. Many bystanders surrounded the scene," he said.
"Upon closer inspection it was found that one adult man believed to be in his late 20s and two children under the age of seven had unfortunately sustained fatal injuries. There was nothing that could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on [the] scene."
Eight other patients, including three children under the age of 12, all sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. ER24 paramedics treated and transported two patients to Thembisa Provincial Hospital for further treatment. The remaining patients were treated and transported by other medical services on the scene.
The cause of the accident was unknown. Local authorities closed the road for further investigation, Rossouw said.
