The Hawks in North West have arrested three police detectives for corruption in Hebron.
The suspects, aged 39, 44 and 48, were nabbed in a sting operation at a mall on Monday.
Hawks spokesperson Tinyiko Mathebula says the suspects allegedly solicited a bribe from the complainant to not arrest him.
"They allegedly demanded R6,000, and the complainant was able to pay them R2,000. The suspects reportedly contacted the complainant, demanding the outstanding amount.
"After the matter was brought to the Hawks' attention, an entrapment was set, and the three were caught soon after receiving R4,000 from the complainant."
The suspects Sgt Lucky Makhubele, Sgt Christopher Nkuna and Sgt Elizabeth Makhasi appeared in court Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and their matter was postponed to 28 February 2024 for bail application.
