Three men have been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment each for raping a 12-year-old girl, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Siboniso Busakwe, 18, Mzwanele Busakwe, 18, and Mzuphela Jacobs, 21, were sentenced by the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court on Friday, Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku said.
"The crime was reported after the trio took turns raping the 12-year-old at one of their houses in Mdantsane, in August 2007," Mzuku said.
They were later found guilty of rape.
Police said the magistrate was not forgiving in sentencing them.
"I hope this will send a very strong message to all men out there that taking advantage of innocent women and children is not accepted...," Magistrate Eugene Moss reportedly said during proceedings.
