The three pupils fell ill at Evaton Primary School on Monday morning and sadly passed away.

According to Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the incident started around 8 am when a Grade 4 teacher brought a sick boy to the school's sick bay.

Despite immediate assistance, the pupil was unresponsive.

"Emergency services and the learner’s mother were quickly notified. In a heartbreaking turn of events, the learner's sibling, a Grade 3 girl, was also brought to the sick bay shortly afterward," says Mabona.

The Grade 3 pupil mentioned that she and her siblings had eaten pap, milk, and biscuits at home.

She too became unresponsive soon after.

Mabona added that the third sibling, a Grade 5 girl, was also found unresponsive after being taken to the sick bay.

"All three learners were rushed to a nearby clinic, where, tragically, they were declared dead," Mabona said.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of the young lives.

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of these children. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and school communities affected by this devastating incident. Our psycho-social support team will be deployed to provide the necessary support during this difficult time.”
