Three killed in separate shack fires in Tshwane
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Tshwane emergency services have confirmed the deaths of at least three people in separate shack fires in the city over the long weekend.
The first shack fire was reported at Cemetery View informal settlement in Pretoria on Saturday. More than 300 shacks were destroyed in the blaze.
The fire left more than 2,000 people without a roof over their heads.
The second fire broke out in Sportspark in Lyttleton on Sunday, where about 50 shacks burnt down and about 150 people were left homeless.
Tshwane EMS spokesperson Charles Mabaso says the causes of both fire incidents are still under investigation.
"Firefighters unfortunately discovered burnt and charred bodies of two male and female adults and an eight-year-old girl during mop-up and cooling operations."
