Three Limpopo cops nabbed for dagga theft
The South African Police Service’s Anti-Corruption Unit arrested three police officers in Polokwane on charges of corruption.
The trio, who allegedly seized dagga meant for research purposes at the University of Limpopo, were arrested in Polokwane on Monday.
Provincial police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the suspects are attached to SAPS Limpopo Highway Patrol Unit.
"According to the information, the suspects raided a dagga plantation at a plot in Dalmada outside Polokwane on Sunday.
“It is further alleged that the suspects seized 8 bags of dagga worth R300 000, which were meant to be used for research purposes at the University of Limpopo. However, the said dagga was never booked at the exhibit store for investigation purposes.
“It is further reported the said plants were never returned to the plantation plot as promised.”
The three suspects are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Tuesday facing charges of corruption, assault and theft.
