Three murder suspects nabbed during longweek end operations in Gauteng

Gauteng police have arrested three suspects in connection with three murders that occurred in the Phumusiwe informal settlement.

 The suspects were arrested on Saturday in Hospital View in Tembisa during the Human Rights Day weekend operation.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the police reacted on a tipoff.

“They were found in possession of three firearms, two of which were unlicensed,” says Makhubele.

In a separate incident in Tshwane, an alleged habitual robber was arrested.

“Police found the suspect in possession of drugs including dagga, and an unlicensed firearm.The suspect will be profiled to check if he could be linked to other crimes,” says Makhubele.

A further six suspects were arrested near Zandspruit informal settlement after they were found with three unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen property.

Their vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

Furthermore, a father and daughter were arrested in De Deur.

“The father who was driving a Mazda was found in possession of illicit cigarettes and the daughter came to the police station and allegedly tried to bribe the police,” adds Makhubele.

On the West Rand, over 190 suspects were arrested - 12 were arrested for drunk driving and a number of illegal liquor outlets were closed and liquor confiscated.

“Meanwhile, over 380 suspects were nabbed in the Tshwane and Ekurhuleni Districts by integrated law enforcement agencies for various offences that include driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The above arrests brought to total 847 suspects that were arrested over the long weekend across all five districts,” says Makhubele.

More than 119 drunk drivers were nabbed across the province.

Makhubele says seven firearms were recovered during the operations and  will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish possible linkage to other crimes.

 The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the respective courts across Gauteng in due course.
