Three officers wounded in Durban shooting

Three police officers are receiving treatment after they were wounded in a shootout with a group of suspected robbers in KwaMashu, north of Durban.

The officers came under fire while responding to an ATM robbery at the Bridge City Shopping Centre at about 01.20am on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says police arrested four suspects
"A follow-up operation was conducted at a clinic nearby where four suspects were arrested. One of the suspects was injured and was receiving treatment and he remains under police guard," he said.
Naicker said the three other arrested suspects were then taken to a KwaMashu Police Station, where the drama continued.
"While at the police station, they attempted to remove a firearms from one of our police officers. During the scuffle, one of the suspects was fatally wounded."
Three vehicles used by the suspects during the robbery were recovered by the police.
"The Hawks have no taken over the investigation. The shooting incident at the KwaMashu Police Station has been reported to the Independent Police Investigative Deirectorate," Naicker said.
A manhunt has been launched for the other suspects involved in the robbery and shooting. Police could not confirm at this stage the number of people on the run.
