Three people were arrested in Malmesbury after they found in possession of uncut diamonds and drugs, Western Cape police have confirmed.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said the trio were arrested on Thursday after police received information about a car travelling on the N7 towards Malmesbury with “possible drugs and illegal diamonds”. He said a high-speed chase ensued.
The vehicle was found and pulled over in Voortrekker Road and when the police searched the vehicle they found 1500 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R60 000. They also found 57 stones, possibly uncut diamonds.
“The stones will be analysed by experts to confirm whether they are diamonds or not and the value thereof,” said Van Wyk.
A 58-year-old man and two women, aged 21 and 39, were arrested and charged with possession of drugs and uncut diamonds. They are expected to appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court soon.
