One of the pupils was stabbed in the upper body on Friday morning and is reported to be in a critical condition in hospital.

Classes were suspended immediately due to safety concerns.

The stabbing is believed to have been sparked by a bullying incident the previous day.

It's understood a grade 9 pupil retaliated by stabbing a fellow pupil.

The pupil, who was stabbed on Thursday, returned to the school the following day with his friends with the intention to carry out the knife attack.

During the fight, three pupils were stabbed, and the attackers fled the scene.

This is the second incident at the school, following an incident which happened in August 2024, where several pupils were hospitalised after fighting.

Parents, who spoke to Jacaranda FM News on anonymity, raised concerns about the lack of adequate security at the school.

"If the situation is like this, which means the kids are not safe, even the teachers are not safe, the only way to handle this matter is to find out what the root cause of the incident that happened today, so that they can be able to protect the kids and also the teachers."

No arrests have been made.

Another concerned parent, Nombonga Khakhaza, said the violence affects thousands of pupils who could not be taught as a result of the suspension of lessons.

"So, I live right opposite the school and what I saw yesterday after school the boys were fighting stabbing each other with scissors and throwing stones at each other,

"This morning there was a fight around 07h30 one of the boys was stabbed and was taken to the hospital, I don't like the chaos that's happening in the school,

"Because pupils didn't get time to learn today because they were dismissed early at 11am, so it's an inconvenience for other pupils as well"

The school governing body refused to comment and directed our inquiry to the Gauteng department of Education.

"We are aware of a fight involving learners at Alexandra High School on Thursday, during which one learner was allegedly stabbed," Spokesperson Steve Mabona said.

"The department has launched an investigation, we are working closely with law enforcement to address safety concerns." Mabona added.
