The DA has asked the South African Police Service to investigate the alleged death threats and tell Parliament what will be done to ensure the safety of the heads of Chapter 9 institutions who need to discharge their constitutional mandate without fear or intimidation.

This comes after Madonsela was made aware of an intended attempt on her life, which would have been planned to look like a car accident.

The alleged hit was supposedly funded to the tune of R740 000 by a Western Cape gangster, and Madonsela was made aware of this by a trusted informant of hers.

Madonsela says: "It's something that I've known for a while. I am now at a point where I understand this may be true, or it may not be true."

She says that someone might have overheard something out of context.

"I haven't changed my movements, I mean, we are all going to die," she said.
