Thunderous Thursday to bring the first storms of the summer

Kgolofelo Mahlangu of the SA Weather Service says the storms will start in the South of Johannesburg around 2pm on Thursday afternoon moving to the Tshwane area by 4pm.

The first summer storms are expected in the interior of South Africa on Thursday with a weather watch issued for severe thunderstorms over the western Highveld of Mpumalanga, the western Bushveld of Limpopo and the northern and eastern parts of Gauteng.

"Try and avoid being out on the roads if possible - if it comes through with heavy downpours at least try and get your cars to safety and don't try and walk in the roads," says Mahlangu.
She added that flash flooding could occur in some places as runoff water accumulates, but that this souold not be widespread.
