Cele addressed the issue of cash-in-transit heists during a dialogue with the Chatsworth community in Durban on Thursday.

The minister visited the family of 9-year-old Sadia Sukhraj, who was shot dead during a botched hijacking earlier this week.

“The tide of crime will turn everywhere in South Africa.

“For some time there was a cash heist that was very high profile in Boksburg and since then there has been a cash heist everyday, which puts a lot of fear in the communities and citizens of SA.

“But these three, four days going back, people are now beginning to notice we have put some inside (prison) where they belong,” Cele told the community.

Cele admitted that the levels of crime in the country is a cause for concern.

“You go to the four provinces, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Eastern Cape you have what we call taxi violence.

“You go to Western Cape there is something called gangsterism, you come to KZN there is what you call political killings,” he said.

Last week an ANC member was shot in his home in the Harry Gwala region, while in Mpumalanga’s Gert Sibande region, a member of Umkhonto we Sizwe was shot dead at an ANC Youth League conference
