This means that eligible voters have until midnight on Friday to register with the Independent Electoral Commission.

The IEC will not accept any names captured on the voters' roll after midnight.

On Tuesday, Ramaphosa set 29 May as the day South Africans will go to the polls, giving eligible voters three days to register with the IEC.

The IEC said following this month's voter registration campaign, the voters’ roll now stands at 27.6 million.

The commission said it is ready to ensure a successful election as the country marks 30 years of democracy and freedom.

Spokesperson Kate Bapela reiterated the commission's commitment and readiness to ensure successful elections.

"As soon as the voters' roll closes, immediately we start working towards the certification and then we start the process of ensuring that every South African understands what will happen at the voting station," she said.

The IEC said it will publish the election timetable in the government gazette after consultation with the National Party Liaison Committee once the proclamation of the election date has been made.

The timetable will outline the various cut-off dates for the performance of certain electoral activities including political party campaigning and manifesto launches.
