TIPS: How to save money

It has not been good news all round for South Africans with all indications that 2016 will be a tough financial year.
With the cost of living on the rise, spending on everything from the food basket to simple luxuries are being reconsidered.
The latest increase - an electricity hike of 9.4 percent granted to Eskom by regulatory body NERSA.
Some Gauteng resident shared their views:
Here are some tips on how to save money:
1. Take food to work instead of buying lunch
2. Go shopping with a list. You will be less likely to buy impulsively
3. Stay in with a DVD rather than going out to the movies
4. Save loose change. It could add up to enough money to buy bread and milk for the last week of the month
5. Keep an eye out for specials at your local super markets
6. Cut down on red meat - meals can be cheaper with chicken or tuna
7. Cancel your gym membership and start jogging or cycling
8. Start a carpool - one vehicle uses less petrol than four
9. Invite friends over instead of going out
10. Drink more water - it's much cheaper and good for you
