WATCH: TMPD arrests 'unruly' Zimbabwean bus driver, passengers
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The driver of a cross-border bus, fully loaded with suspected illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe, has been arrested following a high-speed chase.
The Tshwane metro police say the driver and two passengers were nabbed after the bus was seen driving recklessly on the Ben Schoeman Highway near Centurion on Sunday.
The incident was caught on video.
The bus was stopped by a truck driver who assisted the Tshwane metro police following a high-speed chase.
Metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said the driver produced a Zimbabwean driving licence, passport, and a fake cross-border permit.
"The Zimbabwean nationals from the bus came out of the bus assaulting the driver of the truck. The driver of the bus then drove straight to the TMPD vehicle and bumped into it.
"The other occupants on the bus ran in different directions. The bus was impounded. The three suspects will appear in court soon, and investigations into this incident continue to apprehend the escaped passengers."
The suspects will face charges of assault, illegal immigration, damage to property and obstruction of justice.
