The Tshwane Metro Police Department has launched an investigation after two traffic officers and a suspect were knocked down by one of the department’s vehicles.
The incident took place in Hammanskraal on Friday.
This incident, caught on camera, has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, two officers can be seen attempting to effect an arrest when a TMPD bakkie runs over the officers and the suspect.
“We will also report this incident to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to conduct their own investigation,” said TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba.
He confirmed the driver and the suspect had been arrested.
"The members, the perpetrator and the two officers were taken to the hospital immediately, where they received treatment and were discharged the same day.
"After treatment, the perpetrator was taken to Temba Police Station and detained along with the driver and another passenger of the vehicle in which he had been travelling.
"Charges against them include failing to comply with the instruction of a traffic officer, interfering with the duties of a traffic officer, crimen injuria and resisting arrest.
"Although we regret the incident and the impression created by the video on social media, we are confident that the necessary investigations are underway to investigate and bring the matter to a close."
