Toddler dies after drinking petrol

A three-year-old girl has died after drinking petrol in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

 

"According to the child's mother, the child was playing in the yard... when her uncle was fixing a vehicle," Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

 

The petrol was in a bottle next to the car and it was suspected that the child mistook it for a cold drink. The child was rushed to hospital after the accident on Saturday, but later died.

 

Sibiya said foul play was not suspected and an inquest docket was opened.
