Torched trucks closes N12 highway in Ekurhuleni

The N12 highway at Etwatwa in Ekurhuleni has to be closed in both directions on Wednesday morning after several trucks were torched.
Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng says they are investigating the circumstances which led to the trucks going up in flames. .

Several provinces, including Gauteng, has seen a spate of attacks on trucks over the past 24 hours.
South African truck drivers are demanding an end to the employment of foreign truck drivers.

Mokheseng says he cannot say whether the incident forms part of the series of attacks on trucks and truck drivers.
"It is not clear at this stage as to what caused the heavy vehicles to burn and working together with other law enforcers we are patrolling the affected area.
"Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.”
