She says the complaints come from ordinary citizens, other operators and employees.

"This practice of disregarding the regulations, directions and protocols reportedly include practices such as restaurants operating during curfew, offering take-away alcohol and non-adherence to social distancing or wearing of masks as required by law amongst other violations,” she says.

“This does not only risk these businesses licenses but also endangering the safety of their loyal customers and dedicated workers."

Kubayi-Ngubane says she has on Tuesday written letters to restaurants insisting and appealing yet again for their co-operation.

Restaurant Association of South Africa (Rasa) CEO Wendy Alberts says they are working hard to ensure that customers comply with the regulations.

"We are calling for the collaboration of our customers to work with restaurants and comply with given regulations to ensure that we can move to level 1 and reopen the sector. We are pleading with customers to follow the protocols and not abuse our staff.”

She says in some instances, customers are having difficulties in following all given protocols.

"Many of our restaurants are complying and following protocols, we have had reports of customers who don't want to fill the register and do temperature checks sometimes this cause confusion.

“We are monitoring the places and we will be doing public drives for awareness to ensure that customers understand the need to follow regulations.”
