Toyota recall might take years
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Toyota South Africa says the recall of some 750 000 vehicles due to faulty airbags might take a couple of years.

The recall follows after global airbag supplier, Takata, admitted that some of its airbags do not function properly when deployed.
Toyota SA's CEO, Andrew Kirby, says the recall is a preventative measure.

"We understand that there is a potential risk. So we want to upgrade the airbags to prevent any possible risk into the future even older vehicles so that we can give everybody peace of mind."
Around 100 million vehicles are being recalled globally.
Kirby admits that the recall might take years to complete.
"We would like to do this as quick as possible. However we are constrained in terms of availability of specific part numbers because of the global nature of the recall. We are, I guess, realistic and pragmatic on the time frame, but this will take a few years."
Kirby says the recall affects ten different model ranges, including its Lexus brand.
