The residents have blockaded Soweto Highway with burning tyres, rocks and debris.

Mooki Street as well as Killer Road are also affected.

It’s part of the ongoing battle between residents and power utility Eskom over power cuts.

Law enforcement is on the scene.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Obed Sibasa has urged motorists to use alternative routes.

“From Joburg North, use the N1 south avoid Soweto N17 offramp, use the Rand Show offramp though Diepkloof

“From Joburg Central, use Soweto Highway - at Diepkloof BP garage, take Immink Drive through Diepkloof to Chris Hani.

“From Joburg South, use Chris Hani to deep Soweto,” Sibasa added.
