The Limpopo Department of Transport expects a significant increase in traffic volumtes on major routes and in business districts across the province from Friday, 23 December.
This is the start of the last week end before Christmas and for thousands of travelers it also signals the official start to their holiday.
The routes affected include the N1 and R101 northbound towards Polokwane, the N1 from Polokwane to Beitbridge Border Post in Musina and the N11 towards the Groblersbrug Border Post.
Departmental spokesperson Tidimalo Chueme has urged motorists to drive with caution especially when approaching the Kranskop and Nyl Toll Plazas on the N1 highway.
"Maintain a safe following distance. Do not overload passengers and goods.
"Take a break every two hours or 200 kilometers to reduce fatigue, be patient and courteous when you approach toll gates.
"Avoid driving on the wrong side of the road and creating additional lanes as this will only cause more delays," says Chuene.
